Since moving to New Orleans from California in 2015, Lauren has earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University. As an attorney, she focused her practice on juvenile public defense, driven by a deep and ongoing commitment to youth justice. Her background includes work in adolescent mental health treatment, training in trauma-informed care and harm reduction. Lauren has contributed to several social justice organizations across New Orleans, advancing progressive change through direct legal representation, legislative advocacy, and restorative justice practices. Her time in the courtroom has been instrumental in shaping her policy work. Witnessing firsthand the systemic barriers faced by marginalized communities—particularly youth—has deepened her understanding of the urgent need for legislative reform. These lived legal experiences have fueled her commitment to shifting policies that perpetuate cycles of incarceration and inequality, and have informed her advocacy for more equitable, community-based alternatives to punitive systems.
