Judge (ret.) Miriam Waltzer

A graduate of Loyola School of Law, Judge Waltzer was the first woman elected Judge in the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Section “A,” in 1982. She served there until 1992. Then, she was elected to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal, Division “B.” She retired from that position in 2002. While working as a Judge in Criminal Court, Judge Waltzer initiated programs to help system-involved youth develop strong connections to their community, and to succeed in school and life. She also drafted legislative reforms and lobbied for the rights and protections of youthful victims. Judge Waltzer has been honored, numerous times, both professionally and civically for her many endeavors to the benefit of her profession and her City and its children.
