Carlos Pollard Jr. is a Legal Defense Fund Marshall-Motley Legal Fellow at the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights. A proud New Orleans native, Carlos is deeply committed to serving the children of the city he calls home. In his fellowship, he supports LCCR’s defense team in advancing holistic advocacy for young people entangled in the criminal legal system.
Carlos earned his J.D. from Southern University Law Center in 2025. Before entering law school, he worked on voting rights initiatives across Louisiana and became the youngest person in the state engaged in redistricting work. These experiences sharpened his understanding of how systemic injustice impacts communities of color and strengthened his resolve to pursue a career in public defense.
He was drawn to LCCR because of its mission to ensure that every child is treated with dignity, fairness, and compassion. For Carlos, this work is both professional and personal: he is dedicated to building a justice system where children are supported rather than criminalized.
Outside of work, Carlos enjoys running, spending time outdoors, and “touching grass”—reconnecting with nature and finding balance beyond the courtroom.
