Our most recent Youth Advocate, Kisha Edwards, is the former Director of Client Services for the First 72 Plus and believes that every person that has an encounter with the injustice system should be given the opportunity to demonstrate change. As a formerly incarcerated woman, she understands how the system is designed to favor the wealthy and discriminate against the poor.
Despite this being her first time working so closely with youth, Kisha is motivated to do youth justice work because so many youth don’t have the real support that they need and she firmly believes people aren’t bad just because they make choices that are against the law. This 7th Ward native wants to erase barriers that prevent youth from becoming successful and transform their lives. The mother of three, grandmother of seven, and godmother of two obviously loves people & kids and loves this work because “so many people need help and are lost within the complexities of the legal system.”
