Brenita Softley

CDT Attorney

 Brenita is a 2022 graduate from the University of Alabama School of Law where she earned a Certificate in Public Interest Law. While in law school, Brenita worked with the Tuscaloosa County Public Defenders’ Office, the Southern Center for Human Rights, and as a student attorney with the Children’s Rights Clinic and Criminal Defense Clinic. She also worked as an extern with Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program where she researched law enforcement’s impact on those with disabilities and with Alabama Appleseed where she helped achieve a man’s freedom after over 30 years of incarceration. Because of her commitment to advancing the civil rights of others, Brenita was awarded the ACLU of Alabama Award during her last year of law school. Upon graduation, Brenita began working with the Capital Appeals Project where she helped represent individuals on death row and who had life without parole sentences. In her work with LCCR, Brenita hopes to address the root causes of harm within the criminal legal system and to advocate for our children to be given a chance.
